Following the action from the recent Presidents Cup, it occurred to the Bug that the heathland look of Royal Melbourne was very similar to many of Surrey’s great heathland courses. In fact in a very small area of six square miles of Melbourne suburbia, there are eight top class tracks that rival, and perhaps surpass, all that Surrey can offer.
Where in Surrey, Harry Colt reigns supreme, in Melbourne Dr. Alastair McKenzie is the leading light, and his mark has been made on most of the courses in the area.
The eight greats are Yarra Yarra, The Commonwealth, Peninsula, Huntingdale, The Metropolitan, Victoria, Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath. Compare that to Sunningdale, Wentworth, St. Georges Hill, Walton Heath, Queenwood, The Wisley, Woking, West Hill, Worplesdon, and New Zealand!!
The Bug needs to play them all to be sure which is best!!
